Sharks in Seychelles
Every year near America and Australia recorded 50 shark attacks on tourists. No such incidents have been observed in Seychelles since 1963. Along the coastline of the Islands almost everywhere stretches coral reef, thanks to which predators close to the shore is usually not swam. But everything changed at the end of summer 2011. Then it was just 2 attacks in the district of Praslin island.
On August 1 at 15.30 the shark bit the Frenchman Nicolas Virol. After meeting with her 36-year-old diver died of blood loss – he had damaged both legs.
August 16 at 16.30 predator attacked a British tourist Ian Redmond, when he was diving with a mask at a coral reef. The resort man came for 2 weeks to spend a honeymoon with his wife. As a result of the attack, he lost his left hand. He also had deep abdominal and leg wounds. Despite the medical care provided, he also died.
In both cases, the predator attacked at a distance of about 20 m from the shore. To prevent further incidents, the beach was closed at the time, as were others not protected by the reef. Along the way, pulled the network to protect tourists from intruders. Appeared on the beaches and on duty lifeguards.
Careful! Sharks in Seychelles
The authorities conducted an investigation, which involved experts from South Africa. Found out that the attacking shark was a length of about 2 m. the Exact causes of the incident are not known, however there are several opinions. It is said that at that time the water temperature in that part of the ocean fell slightly, and the fish changed the migration route, leaving the predator without food. From another point of view, it is all the fault of fishing. The resort has a tuna fishing centre, which has environmental implications.
After those cases in Seychelles, all is quiet.
Sharks are the largest fish in the World ocean. Being very strong, most of them are not aggressive. In total, there are more than 500 species, and 4 of them are considered dangerous for humans. It is worth noting that these marine life like fatty meat, such as seals, sea turtles, and they eat fish. In person they often attack if will confuse it with their booty, at least – to try the unknown creature on the tooth. It also happens that people provoke an attack, trying to touch the shark.
Doing this is strictly prohibited, because the attack can be fatal. Especially since the jaws of the fish are arranged in such a way that it can easily gnaw pieces of flesh.
To avoid danger, it is not recommended:
swim with bleeding wounds and scratches;
diving with a lantern – light attracts sharks;
lie on the surface of the water for a long time;
to do a sharp movement near the sharks.
Finally, swim in the morning or evening (this is the time of feeding the predators), as well as in muddy water.
